This is how you keep a gun in a hotel room: in a holster, unchambered and facing the outside wall. You do not clean it in a hotel room. That is all.

Might not be a bad idea to open the slide and take the mag out, either.

Unless it somehow slides itself back, it’s not getting chambered. Also, I’m at a shitty Days Inn. The mag stays with the gun.

I know, but I’m firmly in the “logic be damned, you can’t take too many precautions with a firearm” camp.

It’s fine. There are no children here, and if someone comes in, it’s because they broke down the door.

Why in the world would you leave a striker-fired, double action Glock unchambered? It’s not some 1850s single-action revolver where the firing pin rests on the round, there are like 4 safety layers built in...

Bah, I say.

The only time my carry piece goes “unchambered” is right after I drop the mag and clear the chamber so I can clean it.

Edit: I bet that is an uncle mike’s universal holster too LOL.

Hey “champ”, a round does not and can not chamber itself under any circumstances.

Lol, it has one safety, and it’s a trigger one. A child with a broken finger could pull back on it. I do it out of habit because my sister is a dumbass. She is old enough to know better, but if she does pick it up, I don’t want it going off. But now that I have a CWP, that’s not a problem.

I agree I’d never clean my firearm in a hotel (why wouldn’t I clean it immediately after the range?) but there’s no reason I’d be leaving it unchambered. I’m guessing there’s at least a slide safety, trick trigger safety and possibly a grip safety as well. And for the aiming at the outside wall if it’s being carried as a personal defense piece then it’s more likely than not loaded with hollow points which are designed to expand on impact and not pierce the perp + the wall behind it.

Children should not have assault rifles, better a crew served weapon.

Just a trigger safety, which is one reason I unchamber it out of habit.

04/27/2016 at 22:20

Still, it’s not firing unless the trigger is pulled, but that’s also how you disengage the safeties.

Unchambered? I’ll pass on that part, but the rest is good.

Who cleans their gun in a hotel anyways?

Another pro tip: always take your gun(s) in with you, don’t leave them in your car, overnight, in an unknown area. Hotel parking lots are ripe for break ins.

Kinja'd!!! Big Bubba Ray > His Stigness
04/27/2016 at 22:56

Kinja'd!!!2

It means that there is no bullet in the chamber. As in: if he pulled the trigger, nothing would happen.

Kinja'd!!! FTTOHG Has Moved to https://opposite-lock.com > His Stigness
04/27/2016 at 23:02

Kinja'd!!!0

On a double-action “semiautomatic” pistol it means there is no cartridge in the breech or “chamber” ready to be fired. Therefore pulling the trigger won’t fire the gun. To load the first round from the magazine you need to manually “rack” the gun by pulling the slide back. This chambers the first round out of the magazine, and then a pull of the trigger cocks the firing pin and fires the gun. The action then ejects the case and chambers the next round from the magazine so that it is ready to fire with each trigger pull until the magazine is empty.

Glock’s safe action system actually has three safeties, you just see the trigger one on the outside. Not a traditional safety but better protection against accidental discharge.

Cleaning residue out of the bore of your gun, and making sure the firing parts aren’t crusted with residue as well.

I was in San Antonio for work and staying at a nice hotel on the “good” side of town about 5 years ago. I’m enjoying the continental breakfast and this big burly guy walks in and says “hey! Somebody broke into my truck in your lot, i need a police officer to file a report.”

I talked to him while he waited and found out they took something like 5 pistols and a few long guns he brought for wild boar hunting and said he was an idiot for leaving them laying (in cases) on the back bench seat of his (new) F250

My thoughts are- if I’m in a hotel, I’m probably outside of my home state. If I’m out of my home state I may be traveling thru states I don’t have reciprocity in. Which means while driving thru (highways only) states my CCW permits aren’t honored my gun will be in a TSA approved box. Like this:

Kinja'd!!!

So my SOP is: Glock 19 (PDX1 147gr), round chambered, TSA box unlocked and ajar, grip closest to me. Ideally with Inforce APL.

As for cleaning it in a hotel room, unless I was shooting all day there is no reason to do that. My carry guns are always clean. 2 cases when they’re not: I’ve been at the range all day or something very bad has happened.

Kinja'd!!! Jordan and the Slowrunner, Boomer Intensifies > nucciOMG
04/28/2016 at 10:54

Kinja'd!!!1

My job only sends me traveling through the state I live in, so I’m good there. Plus, I plan on getting my AZ permit, so it’s good through the one state where my SC doesn’t cover that I would travel through for other reasons.

Nice choice. We went with the 19 and 26 because 9mm is so much cheaper and my mom can’t take the recoil of something bigger in such a small gun.

Kinja'd!!! Jordan and the Slowrunner, Boomer Intensifies > Jake Huitt - Two Alfas And A Nissan, Not A Single Running Car
04/28/2016 at 13:47

Kinja'd!!!0

Did you shoot the 30? There is less recoil in it than my Dad’s 9mm. .45 has less powder, equalling less bang, which means less recoil.

Kinja'd!!! Jake Huitt - Two Alfas And A Nissan, Not A Single Running Car > Jordan and the Slowrunner, Boomer Intensifies
04/28/2016 at 13:52

My mom didn’t, but my dad and I did.

I loved it and thought it was perfect. He wanted to match the 9mm we already had and thought mom would prefer the 9 as well.
